I Don’t Practise Golf Because I Don’t Have Enough Time

I don’t have enough time to practise my golf game. There we go now that’s an excuse! It’s almost magic how it can also be applied to everything in your life. Let’s give it a try. I can’t get in shape. You guessed it, it’s because I don’t have enough time. I really meant to study for that test but I ended up staying up all night and crammed because I didn’t have enough time. See how it works so well with everything?

Actually, it doesn’t… it is one of the worst excuse out there. When you stop to think about it, it doesn’t take long to realise that having a few more hours per day would not solve anything. If you don’t have time to do something it’s because you’re doing something else instead. If you had more time, those other things would just fill that extra time.

Things that must be taken care of never suffer from this running out of time curse. Do you remember when you didn’t go to the bathroom because you didn’t have enough time? Or when you only had 24 hours in a day and couldn’t take a shower?

It seems like some things happen everyday, without having to think about them. Also, things like waking up, eating potato chips, and watching television seem to happen to a lot of people on a daily basis. This has nothing to do with how much time we have but instead it’s just a consequence of the decisions we take, of how we set our priorities.

If having more time is not the answer then what is? Why is it that you can watch television for a few hours every day, but you can’t practise putting for an hour throughout the week? Unless something is important or urgent we’ll find other things to do instead. Things that are easier. The harder something is to do, the more important it has to be or else it won’t get done.

Practising golf is no easy task. Thinking about each and every movement when you swing that club, and then analyzing if the ball did what you expected and doing this over and over again will wear down even the best of us. If you’re not practising as much as you would like then you need to make golf more important or you need to make practising golf easier.

Do you need to drive in traffic for 45 minutes to get to the driving range? After a few weeks you’ll stop doing it. This is why having a nice golf practice setup at home is crucial. You need to have the option to practise whenever you feel like it. If you want to practise but the next thing you think about is having to drive in traffic or having to find your plastic practice golf balls, chances are you’ll quit even before starting. Next thing you know you’ll start using the not having enough time to practise excuse when you take 4 shots to get your ball out of the sand trap.

Another way to make sure you stop skipping practice time is involving somebody else. Practising golf with a friend will make golf more important. The extra social commitment can work miracles and it’s a great way to get more feedback and tips to improve your game.
